Introducing Security Insights: Full Visibility Into Data Security

Available now to all Repliers subscribers.

Last October, we launched our API Firewall, a security layer that, with just a couple of lines of code, gives Repliers subscribers the ability to proactively monitor and block abusive users, bots, and scrapers from accessing their data. The response has been remarkable: subscribers are blocking enormous volumes of illegitimate traffic they never even knew existed.

Today, we’re taking that a step further. We’re excited to announce Security Insights, a new dashboard available to all Repliers subscribers in our developer portal that surfaces the data our firewall has been collecting and puts it directly in your hands.

What Is Security Insights?

Security Insights is a real-time visibility layer built on top of our API Firewall. Subscribers who have enabled the firewall can now log in to the Repliers developer portal and see a comprehensive breakdown of the security activity on their account, including:

  • Total requests blocked vs. allowed. Crucially, blocked requests do not count toward your API quota
  • Geographic breakdown of where your requests are originating from, by country
  • Bot and scraper identification: see exactly which bots are targeting your application and how frequently
  • Trends over time: monitor spikes in abusive traffic and correlate with events in your application

This is more than a reporting tool. It’s a lens into the real-world threats your application faces every day, many of which you may have previously had no visibility into at all.

Why This Matters: The Hidden Cost of Unmonitored API Traffic

Our Co-founder, Patrick Arlia, has observed that as much as 75% of API requests at peak times can come from abusive scrapers and bots. For most platforms, that traffic goes entirely undetected. Worse, it quietly counts against their quota, inflates infrastructure costs, and puts them at risk of violating their data agreements.

This problem is especially acute in real estate, where MLS data is highly sensitive and tightly governed. Data agreements require subscribers to actively protect against unauthorized access. But without the right tooling, meeting that obligation has historically been a manual, resource-intensive burden, or simply impossible for smaller teams.

Security Insights changes that. With a single glance at your dashboard, you can confirm that your firewall is working, understand the nature of the threats you’re facing, and demonstrate compliance with the security obligations that come with MLS data access.

The Problem With Traditional MLS Data Delivery

To understand why a feature like Security Insights is so meaningful, it helps to understand how MLS data has traditionally been delivered, and why that model is increasingly untenable.

The dominant model is data replication: MLS data is copied and distributed to hundreds of thousands of end users and downstream applications. Every one of those recipients is expected to independently implement security practices, monitor for abuse, and ensure their systems remain in compliance with data governance rules.

In theory, that sounds reasonable. In practice, it places an overwhelming and unrealistic burden on the data consumer. The vast majority of real estate technology companies, particularly startups and independent developers, simply don’t have the infrastructure, security expertise, or bandwidth to build and maintain these protections at scale. The result is a fragmented, inconsistently secured ecosystem where MLS data is perpetually at risk.

This is precisely the problem that Repliers was built to solve. Rather than pushing the complexity of data management and security onto each individual subscriber, we absorb it at the platform level. Our on-demand API model means your application never holds a full replica of MLS data; it queries in real time through our infrastructure, which means our security controls protect every single request by default.

Security Insights is a direct expression of this philosophy. The data that powers it isn’t something you’d be able to collect on your own; it’s a by-product of the infrastructure we’ve built on your behalf. We’re simply making it visible.

What’s Next: Search Insights

Security Insights is the first of several planned insights features coming to the Repliers developer portal. Later this year, we’ll be launching Search Insights, and it’s one we’re particularly excited about.

Where Security Insights focuses on the health and integrity of your API traffic, Search Insights will focus on what your users are actually looking for. Think of it as a window into the demand signals flowing through your application in real time:

  • Most searched areas and neighbourhoods: understand where buyer and renter interest is concentrating
  • Budget distribution across searches: see how price ranges are shifting over time
  • Property type breakdowns: track demand for condos, detached homes, rentals, and more
  • Search trend analysis: identify emerging markets and seasonal patterns before they’re widely visible

This data is valuable on multiple levels. For subscribers, it’s a rich source of business intelligence that can inform product decisions, marketing strategy, and content creation. For MLSs, it offers an unprecedented view into how their data is being used and what the market is actually demanding, intelligence that has historically been difficult or impossible to aggregate.

Repliers sits at the intersection of thousands of searches every day. Search Insights will turn that position into actionable intelligence for everyone in the ecosystem.
